Entered into eternal rest on the evening of September 20, 2011, Howard Caplan, husband of Norma Green Caplan. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the graveside in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, (1308 Mathis Ferry Rd.) Friday, September 23, 2011 at 4:00 pm.
Mr. Caplan was born February 3, 1920 in Portsmouth, VA, the son of Louis T. "L.T" Caplan and Tillie Pruss Caplan. He served with the United States Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant, JG. Mr. Caplan retired as a commercial realtor and was a former furniture store owner.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Eileen Jo "IJO" Toporek and her husband Dr. Stanley Toporek; one brother: Armond Caplan of Norfolk, VA; three grandsons: Joel Toporek (Tina) Craig Toporek (Courtney) and Dr. Martin Toporek (Christine); five great grandchildren: Kyle Michael Toporek, Karlee Taylor Toporek, Desiree Cresswell, Mason Avery Toporek and Leila Rose Toporek, all of Charleston, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Jewish Community Center or Addlestone Hebrew Academy Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407; or Emanu-El Synagogue, 5 Windsor Dr., Charleston, SC 29407; or Gomley Chesed Synagogue, Chevra Thelim Synagogue, Portsmouth, VA.
