Hilda Cox Goode, 89, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 25, 2025 in Pageland, South Carolina. Born on December 11, 1936 to parents Evelina Skipper Cox and John Quincy Cox in Loris, SC. She was the seventh of eight children and the youngest girl.
Hilda spent her childhood on her family farm, discovering what would become her lifelong form of self expression through gardening, sewing, quilting, crochet, tatting, embroidery, and needle point. She married the love of her life, Eugene Soles Goode, and moved to Charleston, where they were blessed with a beautiful daughter. Throughout her career as Lunchroom Manager at Chicora Elementary School, Hilda found joy in serving children nutritious meals along with a large helping of love. She was a member and quilting instructor within the Charleston Quilting Guild, and participated in numerous craft shows sharing her passion with others. Hilda taught classes for the recreation department for many years. Hilda was a devout Christian who continued to be an active member of Wando Woods Baptist Church, until she moved from Charleston to Pageland to be closer to her family.
If she wasn’t visiting her beloved family in Pageland, working on crafts, or delivering food to the needy within her community, she could often be found in her “happy place.” In her favorite rocking chair behind her bay window, lined with her collection of African violets, Hilda would delight in watching the bluebirds fight, feast and fly. Hilda was loving, mischievous, kind, generous, compassionate, tenacious, hilarious, loyal, honest and always unabashedly herself. She loved fiercely and was fiercely loved. Hilda will be immeasurably missed by all who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her.
Hilda joins her loving husband of 46 years, Eugene Soles Goode, in Heaven, along with her sisters Lois Cox, Dorothy Hardy, Letha Powers, and brothers Linford Cox, and Elvis Cox and a stillborn sister.
She leaves behind her daughter, Anita and son-in-love Dr. Charles Travis Powell Jr., and three grandchildren, Ashley Powell Washington (Gage) of Pennsylvania, Casey Powell Lowry (Dillion) of Tennessee, and Charles Travis Powell III (Maghan Knight) of North Carolina and a great grandson, Baby Washington arriving in May 2026, her sister Elaine Squires, many nieces, nephews and her beloved grandpuppy, Daisy Jane.
The family is forever grateful to Springhill Assisted Living for their compassion and care and the Pageland Community for embracing Hilda as their own.
