Hershel "Red" Lee Lantz, 79, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Rebecca Cobb Lantz, entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 2, 2015 after a brief illness. His memorial service will be held Monday, April 6, 2015 in Peace Lutheran Church, 8315 Dorchester Road at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Red was born February 23, 1936 in Randolph County, WV, son of Ellis Lantz and Ethel Osburn Lantz. Red was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked in marine services since his USAF retirement. He was an active member of the Charleston Yacht Club and the Sea Island Yacht Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #147, the Elks Club and he enjoyed extensive travel within the continental United States in his recreational vehicle. Red was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rebecca, of North Charleston, SC; daughters: Debra Lantz (Jay) of Clearwater, FL, Donna Worman of Belleair Bluffs, FL, and Diana Cotts (Kevin) of Madeira Beach, FL; son, David Lantz of Madeira Beach, FL; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Ellis French Lantz of Mount Airy, NC; and a sister, Lou Ellen Renner of Winchester, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at 4899 Belford Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or the MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425 to benefit cardiac research or diabetes research.
