Herman Carol Sandel, Sr., 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Elizabeth "Betty" Styles Sandel entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 19, 2017. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 22, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
Herman was born August 18, 1930 in Lone Star, SC, son of the late John O'Neal Sandel, Sr., and Lucille Weeks Sandel. Herman was retired from Westvaco of Charleston and then practiced as an Independent Land Developer throughout the state of SC. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, farming, and boating. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #242 of Charleston as well as the Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Cherrie Sandel and husband Lt. Colonel Tracy L. Welch of Alexandria, VA; son, Herman C. Sandel, Jr. and wife Virginia "Gini" Johnson Sandel of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Welch Supanich, Aubrey Alexandra Welch Scroggs, Mary Alana Welch, Cheryl Alyssa Welch, Tyler O'Neal Sandel, Tristan Wyatt Sandel; brother, Jaby "Bill" Douglas and wife Miriam Sandifer Sandel of Orangeburg, SC. Herman was predeceased by four brothers, John O'Neal Sandel, William Connor Sandel, Sr., Thomas "Tom" Weeks Sandel Sr., Floyd Mack Sandel, Sr.; three sisters, Thelma Lucille Sandel, Minnie Rowena Sandel,and Dorothy Sandel Keller.
