Lt. Colonel Herman Frederick Puckhaber, Jr., US Army (Ret.), 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Joan M. Puckhaber, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 3:00 pm. Interment, private. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel.
Fred was born September 26, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Herman Frederick Puckhaber and Elvira Chaplin Puckhaber. He was a 1947 graduate of High School of Charleston and a 1951 graduate of The Citadel. He served in the United States Army during Korea and Viet Nam and retired as Lt. Colonel. Following his retirement he worked for 21 years with Ravenel and Associates in the accounting department. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife and three sons: Herman F. Puckhaber, III, J. David Puckhaber, and Willy Puckhaber all of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Debbie Anderson (Rick) of Springdale, AR, and Marge Rudisill (Bo) of Johns Island, SC; 17 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Mappus Puckhaber, and his daughter, Becky Puckhaber.
