David was born July 29, 1935, in Neeses, South Carolina, son of the late Charles Henry Nettles and the late Lucia Williams Nettles. He loved fishing, shrimping, hunting and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. David was a lifelong outdoorsman who found great joy in nature. He enjoyed casting a line in the local rivers and lakes, setting a shrimp net in the coastal waters, and hunting in the quiet woods. David honorably served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military service, he dedicated another 20 years working as a Heavy Equipment and Crane Operator at the former Charleston Naval Shipyard. During his time at the shipyard, he furthered his education at Trident Technical College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. His strong work ethic and commitment to lifelong learning were evident throughout his life.
But most importantly, David was a devoted follower of Christ whose faith guided every aspect of his life. He was a member of Riverbluff Church in N. Charleston. He served faithfully in various ministry roles in numerous churches, touching countless lives as a Deacon, teaching in Children’s Church, bus ministry, and other areas of ministry with compassion, and a servant's heart. His commitment to sharing the love of Christ was evident in both word and deed. David’s legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by children: Kathy Nettles Still (Joe) of Summerville, SC, Sandra Nettles Huddle (Randy) of Ladson, SC, Janice Nettles Fabian (Gary) of Goose Creek, SC, and Kimberly Gail Nettles of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren: Joshua Lee Huddle, Kaitlyn Still Housand (Andrew), Ashley Fabian Vincent (Ethan), Kristen Huddle Collins (Brandon), Taylor Christian Still (Rachel), Casey Fabian Dowling (Gage), Joseph David Sfreddo, and Jackson Dylan Sfreddo; six great-grandchildren: Emmett Craig Housand, Elliott Jane Housand, Emma Kate Housand, Easton Everett Housand, Emerson Blake Collins, Avery Wren Collins; his life-long fishing partner Roscoe Turnage (Charlene), and many loved nieces and nephews.
