Herman was born December 17, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Frederick Jutzeler and Elsie Jackson Jutzeler. He graduated from Charleston's Murray Vocational School. Herman was a WWII US Navy Veteran with service in the Mediterranean Sea, aboard the Destroyer USS Corry. Herman retired from Geer Drug Company in 1989 as District Salesman after 47 years and numerous sales awards. He was a member of the Charleston Elks Lodge, Charter member, president, and youth advisor of Holy Comforter Lutheran Church, and later a member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Herman was a longtime bowler, a sporty square dancer, and a gifted fisherman of the Stono River. Herman enjoyed nothing more than making milkshakes for his and Martha's grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Jutzeler of Charleston, SC, son, Herman F. Jutzeler, Jr., (Lynn) of Charleston, SC, "my favorite" daughter, Nancy J. Theiling (Dale) of Charleston, SC, five grandchildren, Dale Theiling, Jr., (Holly Norton), Joey Jutzeler (Lindsey), Mark Theiling (Bethany), Jeremy Jutzeler (Peggy), Eric Theiling, six great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his step-father Cornelius J. Murphy and brother Thomas C. Murphy.
The eternal optimist Herman truly never met a stranger and always left people feeling good about themselves and happy they knew Herman Jutzeler. His pleasant personality and strengthening kind words were gifts he shared until his final days. Martha and Herman were always shining examples of a strong marriage, loving parents and grandparents, and thoughtful, sharing friends to all they knew. Among Herman's relatives, cousin George Edward Kornahrens is Herman's lifelong friend and partner in many now-funny escapades of childhood and youth. An ardent Clemson fan, Herman bragged on his family member ties there and always enjoyed the Tiger - Gamecock banter.
