Herman was born June 4, 1927 in Beaufort, SC, son of the late William Edmund Hudson and Miriam Goethe Hudson. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran. Herman retired after more than 40 years of service with the Charleston County Public Works as Construction Supervisor. He enjoyed yard work, repairing things, and stayed busy on his land.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hudson of Johns Island, SC; daughter, Brenda J. Strange of Johns Island, SC; son, James "Jimi" Hudson of Johns Island, SC; sister, Shirley Ellis (Clinton) of Bluffton, SC; three grand-daughters, Michelle Strange of West Ashley, SC, Patricia Carney of Johns Island, SC, Erika Hudson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Matthew Hudson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and three great-grandsons.
