Herman "Ham" Foster Hamilton, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Carolyn Barden Hamilton entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 12, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Foster was born August 20, 1922 in Darlington Heights, Virginia, son of the late Harry E. Hamilton and Charlie-Etta Foster Hamilton. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Ham's distinguished military career included Pilot duty during WWII where he flew "The Hump" and he spent extensive time in Germany, Cairo, Egypt, Springfield, MA and Topeka, KS.
Ham is survived by his brother, Harry E. Hamilton, Jr. of Charleston, SC, nieces: Stephanie Schneider (Charles) of Plano, IL and Brenda Hamilton of Mountain View, CA; nephew, Stephen Hamilton (Stephanie) of North Liberty, IA; three grandnieces, grandnephews and a special friend, Caroline Meyer.
