Herbert Rudolph Powell

Herbert Rudolph "Rudy" Powell, 80, of Hanahan, South Carolina, widower of June Jordan Powell died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his residence. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Midway Cemetery, Hemingway, SC at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends this Friday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Mr. Powell was born September 23, 1931 in Williamsburg County, SC, son of the late Herbert Edward Powell and the late Hallie Douglas Spinks. He retired from the State Ports Authority and ILA Clerks' and Checkers' Union Local 1771. He was a member of Portside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Jeffery L. Powell (Debbie) of Walterboro, SC, Susan Graham-Scott (Stuart) of Greer, SC, and Herbert R. Powell, Jr.(Laura) of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Vivian S. Fite (Don) of Apopka, FL and Evelyn Fuller (Claude) of North Charleston, SC; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Doris Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
