Herbert Gorod, 68, of Charleston, husband of Lynn Hyman Gorod, entered into eternal rest July 10, 2015. His graveside service will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Emanu-El Cemetery, Sycamore Avenue, Maryville at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Herbert was born March 21, 1947 in New York, son of the late Rabbi Louis Gorod and the late Henrietta Gorod. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather, son and son-in-law. He graduated from Emory University and the University of Florida Medical School, and he did his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a psychiatrist who spent his life helping others and an avid reader who loved knowledge. He was a long-time member of Synagogue Emanu-El who regularly attended services there and actively participated in the Charleston Jewish community. He loved Charleston and its beaches, and he enjoyed participating in the city's many cultural offerings. He spent countless hours teaching, guiding, and supporting his two children in their endeavors, academic and otherwise, and he took enormous pleasure and pride in all of their accomplishments. His steadiness and good humor were an inspiration to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his daughter, Brianne Gorod (Jeff Hauser); his son, Adam Gorod; his grandson, Murray Gorod-Hauser; and his sister, Marci Cody (Rich).
