Herbert Phelps Dillon, II

December 27, 1944 — January 26, 2018

Herbert Phelps Dillon II, age 73, passed away at his home in Mount Pleasant surrounded by his family on January 26, 2018.
He was born in Martinsville, VA, on December 27, 1944, to Herbert Phelps Dillon and Helen (Janulis) Dillon. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Interior Design and, with the Viet Nam war raging, immediately enlisted in the Army as a medic. After his tour of duty he worked at Radford College as a designer and was later promoted to business manager.

However, his first love was interior design. While vacationing in Litchfield he saw an ad for an interior designer at Southeastern Galleries and immediately applied for the position. He was employed there for almost forty years, retiring two years ago. He loved his work and he loved his clients, developing close friendships with many of them
.
He is survived by Theresa, his wife of 47 years, his children, Nikolaus Dillon (Deanne) of Mechanicsville, VA; Angela Dillon of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Stanley Dillon of Martinsville, VA; three sisters Brenda Fastabend (Bill) of Lynchburg, VA; Camellia Joyce (J.B.) of Severna Park, MD; and Karen Dillon of Richmond Virginia; two granddaughters, Olivia and Isabelle Dillon; plus ten nieces and nephews. Phelps was a kind and gentle soul and will by missed by all who knew him.
