Herbert Lee Cox, III, 77, husband of Juana N. Cox, entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 18, 2026. His Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026 in the White Church Cemetery, Highway 165 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
Herbert was born March 8, 1948 in Bangor, Maine. He grew up in Caribou, Maine and was a 1967 graduate of Caribou High School. His parents were Herbert Lee Cox, Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Stockwell Cox.
After high school, Herb served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years retiring as a Senior Chief Radioman. He retired from the Navy in Hawaii in 1991 and moved to Charleston, SC. Herb worked with his brother Michael driving big rig trucks across the U.S. After 12 years of driving, Herb and his wife, Juana, settled in Poway, California for 16 years. They then moved to Riverview, Florida to be close to their granddaughter, Marlee; her husband, Sergio and their son, Gabriel.
In addition to his wife, Herb is survived by his daughter, Angel Gragg Scott (Lance); son, Jim Gragg (Carrie); granddaughter, Marlee Serrano (Sergio Calderon); and great-grandson, Gabriel Mason Calderon Serrano.
Herb’s brothers are Michael D. Cox and James P. Cox. His brother Douglas A. Cox recently passed on March 24, 2026. Herb's sisters are Sandra Harrington, Janice Gates and Libby Cox.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Margaret (Midge) Cox; and his son, Herbert Lee Cox, IV.
Herb was a sports fanatic. His favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and the New York Giants. He also was a big Nascar fan. Herb also was a fan of John Wayne. He, his wife, and mother-in-law had visited John Wayne's grave in Newport Beach, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for random acts of kindness. The best gift you can give is your love, time and service to others.
