Born in Charleston, he was the son of Hazel (Wyndham) and August Wichmann, a Prussian/German immigrant, Spanish-American War veteran, and head keep at Cape Romain Lighthouse. Henry was a loving husband and father, a man who valued honor and was a loyal friend. He enjoyed boating, hunting and doing projects with his friends.
He and his first wife, Barbara (Wells), had three sons, Karl, Phil and Keith and were married for 53 years until Barbara's passing in 2004. His second bride was Betty (Cockerill) and they were together for 6 years until she passed. His third and current bride is Nancy (Owen) and they have been together for 12 years. Even though he never graduated 8th grade, Henry started and ran Wichmann Construction Company for multiple decades and built or remodeled hundreds of houses in the Charleston area (as well as the first KFC restaurants in Charleston).
