Henry Inman Siegling, 81, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina died peacefully at home surrounded by his children on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street, Charleston, SC at 11:00 AM, interment to immediately follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 2 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. downtown chapel.
Henry was born January 25, 1942 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of William Allison and Marguerite Inman Siegling. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beautiful bride of 48 years, Jane McLeod Siegling.
Henry graduated from The High School of Charleston in 1960, where he played in the band and participated in multiple sports. He graduated from Newberry College in 1969 with a BA in History and Political Science and as a member of the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. Henry was proud to show his school spirit as their mascot, the Newberry Indian. This is where he met our mom and the love of his life, Jane. He was on the Kappa Alpha Court of Honor. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 35 years in the South Carolina Army National Guard, and United States Army Reserves. He retired from the United States Probation Office after 20 years. Henry was a life member and past president of the German Friendly Society, an honorary life member of The Hibernian Society, member of the Carolina Yacht Club, Quis Qui Club, The Washington Light Infantry (Major General Commander), The Society of Colonial Wars in South Carolina, past commander of the Centennial Legion of Historical Military Command and a life long member of St. John’s where he served several years on the Vestry.
He is survived by his two daughters, Angela Siegling Dalton (David), Elizabeth Marguerite Siegling; son, Henry Inman Siegling, Jr.; step-mother, Barbara Hollings Siegling; two brothers, W. Allison Siegling, Jr. (Joyce) and Lanneau Holton Sieging (MaryHelen) and two grandchildren, McLeod Siegling Dalton and Seth Carol Dalton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street, Charleston, S.C. 29401.
