Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of February 12, 2012, Henry Clay Robertson, III, M.D., husband of Vida FitzSimons Robertson. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. H. Clay Robertson, III are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, in St. Philip's Episcopal Church Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Interment, Churchyard. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Tuesday between 4:00 and 6:00 PM.
Dr. Robertson was born November 30, 1939 in Charleston, SC, the son of Dr. Henry C. Robertson, Jr. and Elizabeth Lebby Robertson. He graduated from Christ School, Davidson College and The Medical University of South Carolina. He received his medical training at MUSC and Grady Memorial Hospital. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He served as President of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and was a member of the following: The Widows and Orphans Society, Fellow with American College of Cardiology, American Medical Association, SC Medical Association, Charleston County Medical Society, Medical Society of SC, American Society of Internal Medicine, and Southern Medical Association.
He served as Lt. Commander as a Physician with the United States Navy between 1967-1969. He was in private practice in both Savannah and Charleston between 1972-1997. He was Director of The Citadel Infirmary 1987 until his retirement in 2005.
Dr. Robertson was a lifelong member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior and Junior Warden. He served on the Diocesan Council and was chairman for the Department of Youth and College Ministries, and the board at Saint John's Mission Center from 1988 until present. He was very involved in Cursillo.
He was a member of The Carolina Yacht Club, where he worked tirelessly to encourage and promote youth sailing. He organized and was Captain of the Charleston Sunfish Fleet. Other civic and social memberships included The South Carolina Society, St. Cecelia Society, The Charleston Rotary and The Charleston Breakfast Clubs. He was Vice Chairman of The Board of Directors at Trident Academy.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Vida Barnwell Robertson, M.D. of Fairhope, AL; one son: William Lebby Robertson and his wife Krista of Charleston, SC; one grandson: Jackson Lebby Robertson; one sister: Ross Haddon Robertson and her partner Margaret Dear of Charleston, SC; He is predeceased by his son, Henry Clay Robertson, IV.
