Henry was born November 5, 1947, in Conway, South Carolina, to William Emory Hucks and Nellie Bryant Hucks. He spent most of his life either in or close to Myrtle Beach, with the final phase of his life spent in Charleston. He had a tremendous personality and quick wit. He loved to tell stories of his life growing up in Myrtle Beach. Everyone loved it when they had the opportunity to be in the same room with Henry and his older brother William. They would have everyone laughing and wanting to hear more of their “Coming of Age” stories.
Henry went to Coastal Carolina University where he enjoyed all sports. He was a member of the Baseball and Basketball teams. His skill as a ball handler and leader on the Chanticleer basketball team and versatility on the Chanticleer baseball team have enriched the legend of university athletics. He was an excellent three-point shooter even before the three-point line was added. He was instrumental in the formation of the CINO Club at Coastal. President David A. DeCenzo and Chairman of the Board William H. Alford of Coastal Carolina University presented Henry with a Resolution naming April 5, 2008, as “Henry Hucks Day”. Celebrations were held at various locations at the University where he was presented with a Football, Basketball, Baseballs, and Bat. All were autographed by members of the teams. He was an excellent salesman and worked in Sales for many years of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Karen Hucks, brother William Hucks and his wife Hildit of Loris, SC sister Mary Sue Woodall and her husband Johnny of Norris, SC, sister in law Linda Hucks of Jacksonville Florida, and nieces and nephews in upper South Carolina and Florida. Henry was predeceased by his parents and his brother James Emory Hucks.
Henry loved life and lived it to the fullest, making friends wherever he went. To know Henry was to “Love” Henry. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
