Hendrika "Henri" Johanna Adriana Leggett

Hendrika “Henri” Johanna Adriana Leggett, 79, of Charleston, SC, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Her memorial service will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc. funeral home, West Ashley Chapel, at 4:00 pm during which a tribute will be given by the Nurses Honor Guard of South Carolina. Her graveside committal service will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 in Beaufort National Cemetery at 10:00 am, with military honors. Arrangements have been made by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Henri was born June 11, 1945 in Den Haag, Holland, Netherlands, and is the daughter of the late Franciscus C. Krybolder and the late Adriana Boogaard Krybolder. In 1956, age 11, she and her family immigrated to the United States. After graduating from Carmel High School, Henri continued her education at Methodist Hospital of Indiana where she received her Nursing Diploma and became a Registered Nurse. She later went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Health Arts and her Master of Science in Health Services Administration at the College of Saint Francis in Illinois. 

Henri’s compassion and caring nature prompted her to commission into the Army Nurse Corps as a First Lieutenant, in which she continued her nursing career as a reservist. She relocated to Charleston, SC., and was activated to active duty during the Persian Gulf War and ended her military career as a Captain. Henri’s life was a testament to her values of love, thoughtfulness, acts of service and family above all, which she embodied until her last breath. She will be deeply missed by her family, loved ones and anyone who had the opportunity to meet her.

Henri was preceded in death by her grandson, Mykel Wayne Theodore Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Ann (Myron) Smith, of Greer, SC; her grandchildren, Jasmine (Jared) Copeland, Myron Smith II, Marquis Smith and Kobe Smith; her great-grandchildren, Marley Copeland and Kemani Copeland; her sisters, Johanna (late Tony) Bartl, and Anneke (Dave) Muller; four nieces and many other family members state side and abroad.
