Helen C. Smith, 98, of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 pm to 2:00 at J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Helen was born November 19, 1923 in Pickens, South Carolina, daughter of James Henry Cureton and Bernice Robinson Cureton.
She was a long time member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. In recent years, she began attending St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Isle of Palms.
Known affectionately to many as Nana, Helen was much loved by family and friends. She is survived by her son, Ronald C. Smith (Kathy) of North Charleston, SC; Grandson, Chad M Smith (Jessica) of Lexington, SC and granddaughter, Weslyn J. Smith of Sullivan's Island, SC; great-granddaughter, Morgan K Smith of Lexington, SC.
She is also survived by her two brothers; Alfred R Cureton (Beverly), of Moore, SC, and Robert H Cureton of Greenwood, SC, her daughter-in-law Deverett Smith of Summerville, SC and sister-in-law Evelyn Smith of Clemson, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband Ralph Busch Smith, her son, Ralph L. Smith, her brothers James H. Cureton of Easley, SC, John C. Cureton of Clemson, SC, and her sister, Lydia S. Smith of Bennetsville, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church at 405 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or St. Marks Lutheran Church at 300 Palm Blvd, #2145, Isle of Palms, SC 29456; or to a charity of ones choice.
