Helen V. Popek

Helen V. Popek, 93, of North Charleston, SC, formerly of Folly Beach, SC, widow of Joseph G. Popek, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2013, in The Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, James Island, at 11:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, SC. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Mrs. Popek was born July 11, 1920, in Quincy, MA. She was the daughter of the late John Martin VanDalen and the late Alice (Hagedorn) VanDalen. Helen and her husband, Joseph, owned and operated a custom-made furniture business for many years in New Jersey. They retired to Folly Beach where they enjoyed their cats and the casual life of the beach community.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Popek is predeceased by two brothers, Cornelius VanDalen and Leonard VanDalen.
