Helen Myra Metts, 89, of Hanahan, SC, widow of George Marion Metts, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, peacefully at home.
Born May 30, 1922 in New York, NY she was one of five children of Morris and Rose Pollack. A member of Highland Park Baptist Church she was active in her Torchbearers Sunday School Class and was a former employee at Ann's Vogue, a dress shop in North Charleston.
Mrs. Metts is survived by her daughters, Georgetta Swear and her husband George of Moyock, NC and Sue Maxine Metts of Hanahan, SC; son, George Morris Metts and his wife Sandi of Hanahan, SC; sisters: Pearl Schrotter, Estelle Vollkommer and Marion Vella; grandchildren: Christopher Metts, Susan Kathleen Toner, Daniel Metts and Denise Robison. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Morris; and grandson, Gary Swear.
The funeral service will be held in Highland Park Baptist Church, Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Metts Cemetery, Branchville, SC at 4:30 PM. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Saturday October 8, 2011 between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Southern Care, 9294 Medical Plaza Drive, Charleston, SC 29406-9125.
