Helen "Jo" Carter Goss, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Friday, January 15, 2021. Her beloved husband of 70 years, James Charles Goss, died Monday, January 11, 2021. A graveside service was held for them both at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 2:00PM. A private memorial service for Jo will be held in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Jo was born December 27, 1930 in Johnston County, North Carolina, daughter of the late James Ressie Carter and the late Ina Jane Garner Carter. She attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC where she graduated as vice president of her senior class. She later met her husband and then moved numerous times during their early marriage. After the family settled in Mt. Pleasant, she worked part time at South Carolina National Bank.
Jo was active in her children's educations and shared that love as a Sunday school teacher at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. She also served as a volunteer at MUSC and Meals on Wheels, respectively, for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and antiquing, and was a member of the Alhambra Garden Club. Sunday afternoons were family time where she made chocolate chip cookies and played cards with her grandchildren.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will forever be missed by her two sons, Charles Michael Goss (Zann) of Headland, AL and Alex Lindsay Goss (Terry) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Susan Collins Carnell (Marty) of Wando, SC; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her brothers, James Ressie Carter and Russell Carter, preceded her in death.
