Helen Case "Casey" Durham, 73, of North Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the The Church of The Resurrection, 5103 N Rhett Avenue at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Casey was born March 24, 1950 in Westfield, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Joseph M. Case and the late Catherine Souter Case. After graduating from Providence School of Nursing, Casey served in the United States Air Force. It was at Vandenberg AFB where she met her husband, W. Edward Durham, Jr. and they moved to Columbia, SC briefly. They became longtime residents of Greenville, SC. Most of Casey's nursing career was with Marshall Pickens Hospital, and for a short time with Interim Health Care. She gave back to her community by being a member of both the Junior League and the PTA while her daughters were in elementary school. Casey volunteered at the Free Medical Clinic as well. She was an active parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church. After the birth of her first granddaughter, Casey moved to Charleston, SC. It was here that she enjoyed volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity Restore and Neighbors Together (formally TriCounty Ministries). In her later years she found peace paddling her kayak and a passion for travel. Casey was a devoted member of the Church of the Resurrection and Daughters of the Holy Cross. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, and most of all, the way she loved people.
She is survived by two daughters, Brennan Durham (John Middaugh) and Carolyn "Carrie" Davis (Patrick), granddaughters, Mary and Kit Davis, all of North Charleston, SC; one brother, Christopher Case (Debra) of Georgetown, SC; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, W. Edward Durham, Jr.; siblings, Marsha Hepsley, Joe Case and Dan Case.
Memorials may be made to Neighbors Together, 2105 Cosgrove Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29405, https://neighborstogethersc.org/ or a charity of your choosing.
