Helen Troutman Bradham

May 25, 1925 — December 22, 2021

Helen Troutman Bradham of The Rice Estates, Columbia, SC peacefully entered Heaven to be with the Lord on December 22, 2021. Helen was born on May 25, 1925 in Iredell County, North Carolina. Daughter of the late Martin Clinton and Vesta Lippard Troutman.

Helen was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC with an AB degree in Voice. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Charleston, SC where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and sang as a professional soprano soloist in the choir for twenty-five years. In her later years, Helen attended, and was an associate member of Living Springs Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC where she also sang in the choir. As her health declined, she became active and attended the services of the Lutheran Chapel of Rice Estates where she has resided for eighteen years. In addition to her singing career, she was the assistant to the Director of the Florence Crittenton Home for twenty years where she retired in 1977.

In addition to her parents, M.C. and Vesta Troutman, she was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Donald C. Bradham and in later years, her second husband, George R. Tolleson, Sr.; daughter, Donna Bradham (Joe) Usry; brother, Elmer H. Troutman; sisters, Evelyn Troutman Gregory, Kathleen Troutman Gragg, and Violet Troutman Ramsour.

Helen is survived by her son, Gary C. Bradham (Susan) of Elgin, SC. She is also survived by her granddaughters: Becky L. Boozer (Jake deceased), Jenni P. Shealy (Clint) of Prosperity, Laurie Lyles (Steve) of Westminster, Erin Bradham (Michael Weber) of Phoenix, AZ. Helen is also survived by great grandchildren: Taylor Boozer, Katelynn B. Roberts (John), Ashley Grace Polson, and David Andrew Polson. She has two great-great grandchildren: Annelise Nelson, and Ryder Roberts. She has been blessed with many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Lutheran Home Foundation, Staff at Rice Estates, and especially the Lutheran Hospice for their dedication and care. As well as her home church, St. Matthews Lutheran Church Charleston, Living Springs Lutheran Church of Columbia, and the Lutheran Chapel Program at Rice Estates for their many years of spiritual support and love. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutheran Homes of SC Foundation, 300 Ministry Drive, Irmo, SC 29063 (website: ), St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 456 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or Living Springs Lutheran Church 4224 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

The service for Helen will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel at 1 pm. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. The committal service will follow for family in Live Oak Cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC. 29414. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. A memorial service is planned for Helen at the Rice Estates 100 Finley Road, Columbia, SC 29203 on January 2, 2022 at 3:00.
