Helen Brown Smith Boddie, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of James Matthew Boddie, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 28, 2021. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 at Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive at 11:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m until time of service at the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Helen was born September 13, 1923 in Stanley, North Carolina, daughter of the late James Earl Smith and Lillian Peterson Smith. She retired from the News and Courier. Helen was a member of Lutheran Church of The Redeemer in Avondale. She was also a member of The Charleston Singers Guild and the Spaghetti Girls, which was a small group of beloved friends who met for dinner weekly.

Helen is survived by her sons: James Matthew Boddie, Jr. (Lori) and Daniel P. Boddie of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, James F. Smith (Jean) of Lake Hartwell, GA; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Nancy G. Boddie and Lisa B. McLaughlin.

Helen will be sadly missed by family and friends.
