Harvey Holden Walters

July 20, 1929 - February 14, 2025

Harvey, a remarkable man of strength, resilience, and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 95 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born during the hardships of the Great Depression, in Lavonia,Georgia he was one of ten children and was the youngest of the boys. He was raised in Anderson, South Carolina and moved to Isle of Palms in 1967 where he remained. Harvey led a humble life, defined by his deep commitment to serving his family, his country, and his work.

Harvey was deployed into active service on January 11, 1951, and returned October 21, 1952. Despite leaving for war just 3 months after being newly married and facing the uncertainty that came with it, he remained a pillar of strength. He navigated the challenges of being on the frontline of Korea with immense bravery and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

Harvey affectionately referred to as “Boss” was a remarkable man of grit, tenacity and unmatched work ethic. He was an exceptional mentor and craftsman. A master of his trade, not only honing his own skills but also training his employees to become highly talented. He invested in their growth, sharpening their abilities and giving them opportunities, often believing in them before they believed in themselves. He was an extraordinary carpenter and an even greater leader.

Harvey passed his skill set down to his son Richard and grandson Troy and his son still runs the company with the same integrity, work ethic and zest for life that Harvey did.

Harvey was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms and in the early years he sang in the choir and served in both the church and community in various capacities. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bowling and dancing with his beloved wife Carolyn of 75 years. His endearing stories of the good old days and his ability to see the world from a simpler perspective was one that would draw you in.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents Amos and Pearl Walters. Sisters Emily, Edith, Alma, Sue, Henrietta, and brothers Alford, and Bill, and Grandson Jarrod Holt
