Harvey Lonnie Cowart, Jr., 84, of Cross, SC, formerly of North Charleston went to be with his Lord, Thursday, April 13, 2017 after a long illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his celebration of life, Saturday, April 15, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 3:00 pm. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service.
Mr. Cowart was born January 14, 1933 in Charleston, SC the son of his late parents, Harvey L. Cowart, Sr. and Bessie Bunch Cowart. He was a member of Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church in Holly Hill, SC and served the Church over the years in various capacities. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Allene Benton Cowart; a daughter, Debby Cowart Hill (Ronny) of Moncks Corner, SC; two sons, Lonnie Allen Cowart (Diane) and Mark Wayne Cowart (Victoria); grandchildren: Rae Hill, Ashley Shuler (Clinton), Jamee Hill, Lonnie Allen Cowart, Jr. (Kate), Olivia Cowart; and great-grandchildren: Gibbs, McCrae, Charlotte and Hart all of the Charleston Area. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Doris Cowart Paugh of Goose Creek, SC and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Cowart is preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Edward Cowart.Mr. Cowart graduated from Murray Vocational School in Charleston and retired after many years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard from his final position in 1987 as a Nuclear Engineering Technician. He also served in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
