Harry Sewell, Sr., 79, husband of Dorothy Bowers Sewell of Mt. Pleasant, SC, joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. The relatives and friends of Harry Sewell, Sr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 11:00 am until time of the service.
Mr. Sewell was born on November 18, 1932 in Tate, Georgia, son of the late Harold and Troyce Gurley Sewell of Barnwell, SC. He grew up in Barnwell, SC and after high school he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After serving his country he graduated from the University of South Carolina with an engineering degree. He retired from NAVELEX of Charleston in 1990. He was also a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy B. Sewell of Mt. Pleasant, SC; their daughter, Lisa Holcombe (Tom) and their daughters, Loren, Madeline of Centerville, OH and Melissa of Woodbridge, VA; their son, Harry Sewell, Jr. (Jeanette) and their children, Harry Jason Sewell, III (Brandy), Jaime Edwards (Jared), and Mariah of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his great grandchildren John Austin Sewell, Jacob Sewell, and Chloe Edwards; his sister, Barbara Singleton (Gene) of Barnwell, SC and his brother, Michael Sewell (Anne) of Sylacauga, AL.
