Harry Henry Francis Hutson III

Harry Henry Francis Hutson III, “Hootie”, “Big Daddy”, 84, of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away peacefully at his home on January 30, 2024. 

Hootie was born November 29, 1939 in Charleston, SC to the late Harry Henry Francis Hutson, Jr. and Olga Delores Thomson Hutson. 

He attended Moultrie High School where he met his wife, Ann Ellis Hutson. He attended The Citadel, Florida State University and also served in the Coast Guard Reserves. He married Ann Ellis Hutson, the love of his life, on April 12, 1958. They were married for 65 wonderful years. 

Hootie devoted nearly 50 years to his passion in ophthalmology. He enjoyed working with his coworkers that were like family to him. His long term working relationship with Dr. Elizabeth Sharpe was second to none. 

Hootie was known for his love for hunting, fishing, the outdoors and family. He lived an extraordinary life and didn’t meet a stranger. He loved people and people loved him. He was a devout Christian who knew his savior was Jesus Christ. He adored his family more than anything and they adored him.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Ellis Hutson; his son, Todd Christopher Hutson (Catrina); his sister, Cindy Hutson Hall (Chipper); his brother, Gregory Francis Hutson (Tiffany); his sister-in-law, Jane Hutson; his granddaughters, Kristin Hutson Reed (Bo Collins) and Tiffany Marie Hutson (Ryan Coursey); his great grandchildren, Avery Reed, Hutson Reed, Bryce Reed and Teal Deaton; his nieces, Ticia Hutson Schaub, Samantha Hutson King-Johnson, Catherine Hutson, Tyler Hutson, Celeste Hutson Lott and nephew, Trey Bendell, many great nieces and nephews and many more friends he considered family. 

Hootie was preceded in death by his youngest son, James Randall Hutson; his father, Harry Henry Francis Hutson, Jr. and his wife Ruth Hutson; his mother, Olga Delores Brisben and her husband John Brisben, two brothers, Johnny Hutson and Lonnie Hutson, and nephew, John David Hutson. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4th from 5:00-7:00pm at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd.  Private inurnment service for family will be held at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
