HALLMAN, Jr., Harry Morgan
Harry Morgan Hallman, Jr., husband of Shirley "Brooke" Hallman, and former Mount Pleasant Mayor, entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 8, 2011. The relatives and friends of Mr. Harry Hallman are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service, Wednesday, January 12, 2001, in Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church at 1pm. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 2 until 4pm and 6 until 8 pm. Born in Greenwood, SC on July 30, 1934, the son of Harry M. Hallman and Frances Underwood Hallman, Mr. Hallman was a retired oil executive, stock market investor, and a former Mayor of Mount Pleasant from 2000-2009. The oldest of six children, he graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1958 with a BS in Business Administration and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanity Letters degree from the University of Charleston. During his lifetime, Mr. Hallman's public service involvement included his position as Chairman of the Charleston Aviation Authority, the University Study Committee, SCDHEC, and The Charleston County Legislative Delegation. Harry Hallman also served in the SC House of Representatives from 1988-1996, was a founding member of the Hunley Commission, and was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife Shirley "Brooke" Hallman of Mount Pleasant, two daughters, Terri Hallman- Chapman (Ed), and Cathy Hallman-Kenner (Greg), siblings : Thomas Hallman of Aiken, SC, Richard Hallman of Wilmington, NC, Jolly Hallman of Snellville, GA, Beth Broome of N. Augusta, and six grandchildren. Mr. Hallman was preceded in death by a son, Harry Robert Hallman, and a sister, Dinah H. Marino. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 and/or The Stokes-Marshall Senior Center, c/o R. L. Jones Center, 391 Egypt Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
