Harry Braxton, Jr., 84, of Charleston, joined his heavenly father on Monday, November 23, 2015. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service in the Downtown Chapel.
Harry was born in Bamberg, SC on January 4, 1931 to the late Deniece W. Braxton Kerce and Harry Braxton, Sr. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended the College of Charleston and the University of Maryland. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After returning to Charleston, he served as a policeman on the Charleston City Police force before going to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He started his main career as a Special Agent with the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, a job he loved very much. His job with ATF took him to Georgia and Tennessee where he retired as Investigator in Charge, before returning to Charleston to live out his retirement. Harry was an inactive Mason and Shriner. He loved all outdoor activities and after retirement played golf and tennis daily before becoming disabled.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy, and one daughter, Deniece B. Castillo (Bo). He has two grandchildren: Christina Pitchford (Trey) and James Cox (Rayna) and three great-grandchildren, all of Summerville, SC.
