Harriott Nixon Knox

October 17, 1947 — December 15, 2010

Harriott Nixon Knox, wife of Vernon Knox of Folly Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday evening surrounded by her loving family on December 15, 2010. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Knox are invited to attend her funeral services Saturday, December 18, 2010 at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 2:30 p.m.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island.  The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel this evening, Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. 


Harriott was born October 17, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Frances Jerdone Nixon and the late Joseph Henry Nixon.  She attended Palmer Business College and was a Real Estate Agent with Carolina One.  Harriott's passion for real estate was rivaled only by her devotion to her family.  She delighted in having both her sons' families living in and near the Charleston Lowcountry and was a loving mother-in-law and grandmother. Harriott was a member of The Readheads and The Readheaded Sisters Book Club.  She was also a member of The Charleston Trident Association of Realtors.  Her zest for life and generous spirit warmed all who had the pleasure to know her.


She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Vernon of Folly Beach; two sons, Richard J. Hartnett, Jr. and his wife Dana of Charleston, Robert C. Hartnett and his wife Melanie of McClellanville, SC; three grandchildren, Joseph Palmer Hartnett, Chloe Nicole Hartnett, and Miranda Frances Hartnett; a brother, Joseph Henry Nixon, Jr. of Washington, DC; two sisters, Frances Jerdone Nixon Altman of Folly Beach and Joan Jerdone Drozd of Lexington, SC.
