Entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 8, 2012, Harriet Eugenia Stevens Stimson, widow of Samuel Carl Stimson, Jr. Residence, Charleston, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Mount Zion AME Church, 5 Glebe Street. Entombment, Grace Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends Friday in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Friday between 5:00 and 7:00 PM.
Mrs. Stimson was born October 31, 1917 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Harlie Harvey Stevens and Alice Wyatt Peecksen Stevens. She was a graduate of Memminger High School, a 1939 graduate of The College of Charleston with a Major in Biology and History. She received her Business Degree from Webber College in Babson Park, FL and her Masters Degree at The University of South Carolina. Her careers included: Mental Health Clinic of Charleston and Rock Hill, SC, Frigidaire in Charlotte, NC, Principal of the Lower School at Ashley Hall and the Medical University of South Carolina in the Resident Program.
She was a member of Grace Church, a former member of the Rebecca Motte Chapter, DAR, National Society of The Colonial Dames of America-State of South Carolina, Ladies Benevolent Society of the City of Charleston and a former member of The Garden Club of Charleston. She volunteered at Roper Hospital. Mrs. Stimson traveled extensively internationally.
Mrs. Stimson is survived by her daughter: Harriet (Ret) Stimson Gatter and her husband Steve of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters: Courtney Rhett Gatter of Philadelphia, PA and Kristin Leigh Gatter of Jacksonville, FL; niece: Sandra Stevens Shirley of Johnston, SC.

In fond memory of Robert R. Horner, Jr., her Sandpiper constant companion.
