Harriet Parler Spigener, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Laney Shuler Spigener, Sr. entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 15, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in Bethany United Methodist Church of James Island 1853 Maybank Hwy, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street.
Harriet was born February 27, 1934 in Creston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Marion Carlos Parler and Anna Julia Keller Parler. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Harriet was a high school English teacher in her early career before becoming a full time wife to her husband of 55 years and mother. She was a dedicated member of Bethany United Methodist Church of James Island, active in Jennings Bible Class and the United Methodist Women. Harriet was a member of Kings Daughters and Riverland Terrace Garden Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia S. Weed (Joseph) of James Island, SC; son, Rev. Laney S. Spigener, Jr. (Jean) of Pembroke, VA; brother, William C. Parler (Anne) of Frankford, DE; eight grandchildren: Cam Gray (Angel), Ashley Walker (Kyle), Bruce Spigener (Amanda), Jennifer Carter (David), Shuler Spigener (Kate), Banks Weed, Jake Weed, and Hattiebelle Spigener; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Savannah Place staff and her primary caregiver, Kendra Lott for all their love, kindness, and companionship to her and Laney.
The family is comforted knowing she was prepared, heart and soul, to join her Lord and the love of her life, Laney.
