It is with great sadness that Kay Hales and Robert Platt announce the passing of their beloved mother, Harriet Phoebe Platt (nee Hendrix) on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the age of 92, due to complications from a recent stroke.
Born in Waycross, Georgia, Harriet was raised in a Christian home by parents George Washington Hendrix and Hattie Bell Hendrix. Harriet's faith and positive outlook were a gift to all who were fortunate enough to be in her presence. She always had an encouraging word, and a smile to share with others. Harriet was known for her generosity of spirit, kindness towards others, and her love of family. Harriet retired after 15 years of service from the Charleston County Register of Deeds Office. An excellent cook, Harriet loved flowers, gardening, and traveling the United States and abroad with her brother, Bob. Most of all, she loved her family and visited them often. Harriet will be remembered as a beautiful person inside and out, a devoted family member and faithful servant of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Platt. Harriet was also one of thirteen children. Welcoming her to her heavenly home are Willie Mae Shaw, Wonnie Lee Griffin, Lois Shepard, Emogene Sweat, Sallie Lucas, Dub Hendrix, Clyde Hendrix, Charles Hendrix, Harry Hendrix, Robert Hendrix, and Carol Perez. Along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, Harriet's memory will forever be cherished by her children, Kay Hales (Stan), Robert Platt (Wayne); granddaughter, Hannah Hales; and Harriet's sister, Betty Guy.
Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in the church parlor 1:00-1:45 before the service. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery, 4981 Chapel Rd, Yonges Island.
Kay and Robert would like to thank the Benton House West of the Ashley, and the Lowcountry Community Hospice House for the excellent care given to their mother. For those that feel called to donate, please send donations to, John Wesley United Methodist Church.
