Harold Wade, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jean Wade entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 1, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 in Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth Street at 11:00 a.m. Entombment, Grace Church Columbarium. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Harold was born June 6, 1926 in Liverpool, England, son of Harold Francis Wade and Eva Balentyne Wade. He graduated from Cornell University with a Horticultural Degree and a Master's Degree in Regional and City Planning. He was the owner of Carolina Landscape Service from 1961 until his retirement in 1995. Harold was the president of his Outing Club at Cornell and enjoyed hiking, canoeing and camping in the Adirondack Mountains of upper New York. He was an avid skier and vacationed with his family at many of the ski resorts in the western states and in Europe. Harold enjoyed fishing and crabbing in the low country and particularly enjoyed his summers at the beach on Sullivan's Island.
Harold was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and sang in the choir. He was a long time member of the Sertoma Club of Charleston, a Master Gardener with Clemson Extension, and past member of the Executive Association of Greater Charleston.
Harold's quick wit, jovial nature and great kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him.He is survived by his wife Jean Stone Wade to whom he was married for 63 years, his son Derek Wade (Kathlyn) of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Leslie Jean Wade of Atlanta, GA and Evelyn Wade Helfrick (John) of Mendham, NJ; one granddaughter, Aubrey Lee Wade; five grandsons, Mason Wade, Derek Terry, Stephen Terry, Graham Helfrick, and Evan Helfrick.
