Col. Harold Philmore Wells, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.), PhD., 90, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of the late Lula "Bettye" Monteith Wells entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 24, 2016. The family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 6:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 in The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC at 2:00 p.m.
Harold was born December 5, 1925 in Key West, Florida, son of the late Samuel Wells and Martha Saunders Wells. He was a retired Colonel and Chaplain with the U.S. Army and he also served in the US Naval Air Corp during WWII and a Vietnam Veteran. Harold was a Mason, Shriner, and past President of the Southeastern Magicians Convention. During his life he served as a Lay Minister with the Brethren Church through out Florida, his home Church in Key West, and Waynesville, NC. Harold also did missionary work on Andros Island, Bahamas, and in Cuba. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity.
He is survived by his three sons, Phil Wells and his wife Connie of James Island, SC, Douglas Wells and his wife Karen of Johns Island, SC, Monty Wells and his wife Gail of Bel Air, MD; six grandchildren, Christopher, David, Douglas, Hali, Jordan, Lucas Wells; two sisters, Dorothy Edwards and Helen Spurlock.
