Harold Thomas Mitchum, Jr.

Harold Thomas Mitchum, Jr., of Ravenel, South Carolina, lovingly known as “Mitch” to his closest family and friends, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the age of 75.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Mitch found his peace in the woods, whether hunting, fishing, or simply spending time outside. He had a deep appreciation for the simple things in life-good bourbon, classic westerns, and sports-Go Braves! He valued his independence and lived life on his own terms, with a strong sense of loyalty and devotion to his family and those he held dear.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 22, 1949, he was the eldest son of the late Harold Thomas Mitchum, Sr., and Gladys Hallex Mitchum. He graduated from Stall High School and attended The Citadel before dedicating many years to Southern Lumber & Millwork, where he built a lasting career and eventually retired.

Mitch is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara J. Mitchum of 44 years; his daughter whom he adored, Nancy M. Miller (Ray); his brothers, David Mitchum and Brad Mitchum (Gail); his brother-in-law Charles R. Jenny (Linda); his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth J. Williams (Wayne) and Linda H. Parnell (Bob); and many nieces and nephews who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Johnny Mitchum.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location.

In memory of Mitch, donations to the Charleston Animal Society (2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406) are welcomed in place of flowers.
