Harold A. Harken, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Mary Murray Bailey Harken, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 2:00 pm. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Harold was born June 9, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of John E.Harken and Henrietta Matilda Doscher Harken. Harold or "Puddin", as he was known by many friends and family, was a 1950 graduate of The Citadel. He was a life long member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where he was a past president of the church council. Harold was also a member of the German Friendly Society and Arion Society. He was a veteran of WWII and was retired from the Polaris Missile Base.
He is survived by his wife Mary Murray Bailey Harken of Charleston, SC, son, Hal Harken of Charleston, SC, daughter, Sandy Harken of Folly Beach, SC; 4 step-children, Fran Fisher (Joe), Jim Bailey (Kathy), Rick Bailey all of Charleston, SC and Carol Leonard (Danny) of Lexington, NC; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eloise Adams Harken.
