Harold I. Fox, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Carolee Rosen Fox, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 24, 2017. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the graveside in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery (Maryville). Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Harold was born May 20, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Otto Z. Fox and Sarah Mendelson Fox. He was predeceased by his brother, P. Maurice Fox. He was a graduate of the High School of Charleston and the College of Charleston. Harold was affiliated with Fox Music House before opening Keys to Music where he retired as the owner. He was a founding member of Congregation Dor Tikvah, where he also served as a board member. He was a member and past president of Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, Emeritus Lifetime Board Member of the Charleston Jewish Federation, a member of the Hebrew Benevolent Society, the Hebrew Orphan Society and the South Carolina Jewish Historical Society. He was an advocate for the Charleston Jewish Family Services. He served his country in the U.S Army Reserves where he retired with the rank of Major. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America, Reserve Officers Association and American Legion Post #179.
He is survived by his sister in law, Joan W. Fox of Charleston, SC; cousin, Michael Fox (Janice) of Wallace, NC; three nephews, Charles Fox (Missee) of Charleston, SC, Lowell Fox of New York and Walter Fox of Charleston, SC; two nieces, Diane Fox of Charleston, SC and Jenni Levin (Meir) of New York; additional family members, Alan Goldkin (Amy) and their children, Yaffa, Zahara, Nadav, Raphael and Margalit of Memphis, TN.
