On May 25, 2021, Harold Joe "Rock" Cooper, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina entered into eternal rest after a brief illness. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. Masks and social distancing will be requested.
Rock was born December 23, 1927 in Charlotte, NC, son of the late John Levi Cooper and Annie Lula Cooper. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and Presbyterian College. During an interim period in college, Rock entered the US Army Air Corp and upon his discharge he returned to PC. After graduation he taught school and coached for a brief period in Walterboro, SC. In 1952 he married his "soul mate" of 65 years Betty J. Scott and went to work at Westvaco where he retired as a mechanical engineer after 38 years. He loved and coached little league baseball for the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department for 11 years and his hobbies were gardening and woodworking (treasured keepsakes of his children and grandchildren).
In addition to his wife, Rock was predeceased by his brother, John L. "Jack" Cooper. He is survived by his three sons, John L. Cooper (Candace), Paul S. Cooper (Pam), and Jeffrey S. Cooper all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Mark, Amanda, Rhett, Renee, Rachel, Kevin, and Craig; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie, Cooper, Scottie, and Amelia.
Rock was a longtime member of St Barnabas Lutheran Church and recently began attending All Saints Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.
