Harley R. Stokes

Harley Roland Stokes, 94, of Summerville, South Carolina, beloved husband of Lila Patricia Truluck Stokes, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Born on August 4, 1930, in Darlington, South Carolina, Harley was the son of the late Harley Phillip Stokes and Marie Horne Stokes. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant after 21 years of dedicated service. Following his military career, he went on to retire from both General Electric and Civil Service, a testament to his lifelong commitment to hard work and excellence.

Harley was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served faithfully as a trustee and in many other roles. He was known not only for his quiet strength and reliability, but also for his love of the simple joys in life. He had a lifelong fascination with trains and spent many happy hours building model train sets. He loved the outdoors, whether camping, traveling, or simply soaking in the beauty around him. Harley was always on the move—he believed in staying busy and “always had plenty to do.”

Harley was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia; his sister, Carolyn McCoy; his four sons, Randy Stokes (Karen), Danny Stokes (Linda), Mark Stokes (Terri), and Robert Johnson; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hughlee Stokes, and his sister Margie Fishman.

Harley’s legacy is one of faith, family, service, and steady devotion—a life well lived and deeply loved.
