Harlan Wayne Rice

September 19, 1923 — June 15, 2013

Harlan Wayne Rice, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Holder Rice, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 15, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday June 18, 2013 in Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 11:00 am. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday June 17, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Harlan was born September 19, 1923 in Wesco, Missouri, the son of the late Claude Rice and Anna Zieman Rice. He was a retired metallurgist with the University of MO, Materials Research and Space Science Center. Harlan served in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate during WWII and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years of Charleston SC; three daughters, Susan Rice, Sandy Rice and Sharon Hollar (Herbert) all of Charleston SC. Two grandchildren, Dr. Adam N. Cassell and Kathryn Anna Terrell Hovis and many nieces and nephews.
