Harlan Ray Houghland, 74, of Awendaw, South Carolina, husband of Carolyn Bird Houghland passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015. His Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
Harlan was born December 5, 1940 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, son of the late John Houghland and Marguerite Lueker Houghland. He was retired as a Night Supervisor with Amoco Chemical Company. Harlan enjoyed woodworking, photography, music, and history. He was an avid reader and was a Civil War buff and enjoyed hunting for arrowheads.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Carolyn Bird Houghland of Awendaw, SC; his daughter, Beth Ann Houghland Zink and her husband, Jerry of Daniel Island, SC; his son, Douglas Ray Houghland and his wife, Sandi of Moore, SC; his grandchildren, Emily Zink of Daniel Island, SC and Rayli Houghland of Moore, SC; and his two brothers, Ronald Houghland of Pinckneyville, IL and Albert Houghland of Pinckneyville, IL. He was preceded in death by his sisters, LaDonne Book and Melba Macri.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
