Mr. Louis A.B. Venable, age 76, husband of Mickie Sue Venable for over 52 years, entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2011.
Louis "Gunny" Venable was born on February 23, 1935 in Cankton, Louisiana to the late Voorhies Venable and Josephine Hanks Venable. "Gunny" Venable was a Korean War and Vietnam Veteran and retired as a GySgt in the United States Marine Corps after serving in both the Air Force and the Army. His last tour of active duty was spent as a Battalion Drill Instructor on Parris Island, SC. After he retired, he served as a Recruit Training Photographer on Parris Island before serving as an Admin Specialist and Drill Master at The Citadel Military College of South Carolina where he retired in 1999.
"Gunny" Venable was a member of the "Golden Gloves" Boxer Association in Sunset, LA, VFW Post 8760 in Beaufort, SC, the National Drill Instructors Association, and a Charter Member of AMVETS Post 70. He also was a member of Northbridge Baptist Church in Charleston where he cherished his Men's Sunday School Class.
"Gunny" Venable's survivors include three daughters, Dineese Venable Watlington and her husband, Greg Watlington, of Cookeville, Tenn, Aleta Venable Eskridge and her husband, Charles Eskridge, of Columbia, SC, and Desire' Venable, of Goose Creek, SC, and one son, Louis A.B. Venable, Jr. and his wife, Ruth Anne Venable, of Charleston, SC, and seven grandchildren, Greggory Watlington Jr., Krysta Watlington, Victoria Eskridge, Chase Eskridge, Lauren Venable, Lindsay Venable, and Luke Venable, and a sister-in-law, Ruby Mae Barnes of Goose Creek, SC.
Friends and family of "Gunny" Venable are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., July 29, 2011 at Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407. Committal Services will be conducted in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2 pm. There will be a visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on July 28, 2011 at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy, Charleston, SC 29414.
