Gwendolyn Youmans Walters, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Pete Walters entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 14, 2018. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 19, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 in Pinecrest Baptist Church, 1285 Ashley Hall Road at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Gwendolyn was born September 1, 1934 in Hampton, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Youmans and Cora Gould Youmans. She was retired from Charleston County School District after 26 years of service. She was also employed in sales at SAS Shoes. Gwendolyn was very active in her church for over 59 years, where she was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School and touched many lives as the "Official Greeter and Hugger" of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Pete Walters of Charleston, SC; daughter, Kim Ingalsbe of Summerville, SC; son, Terry Allen Walters (Laura) of Charleston, SC, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son Darrell Wayne Walters.
