Gussie Chestnut McDowell

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 21, 2011, Gussie Chestnut McDowell, widow of John T. McDowell.  Residence, North Charleston, South Carolina.  The relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Conway, South Carolina, Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 2 pm.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 5 until 7 pm at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. 


Gussie was born in Conway, South Carolina on September 10, 1927, daughter of the late Thomas Daggett Chestnut and the late Nancy McDowell Chestnut.  She was a homemaker and member of Low Country Free Will Baptist Church. 


Surviving are her two daughters, Cheryl Jones and husband George of North Charleston, Marilyn Moore of Summerville; a stepson, Donald J. McDowell of Chesapeake, VA, two sisters, Mary Jo Chestnut and Johnnie Loupo both of Conway, SC; five grandchildren, Chris Jones and wife Kim of Summerville, Pamela Condon and husband Chris of Charleston, Lynne Keener and husband Chris of Moncks Corner, John Murray and wife Amy of Summerville, Scott Murray and wife Kristen of Summerville; and 15 great grandchildren, Megan, Samantha, Emily, Angela, Bradley, Alexis, Austin, Madison, Johnathan, Haylee, Tyler, Haley, McKenzie, McKailyn, and McKinley.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Winfred Chestnut, Lloyd Chestnut, T.J. Chestnut; and two sisters, Maybelle Yarborough and Marie Holt.
