Grayson Gaillard Hanahan, 79, of Mount Pleasant, SC, husband of Elizabeth Arrowsmith Hanahan, entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 9, 2016. His funeral service will be held at the graveside Wednesday, January 13, 2016, in St. Philip's Churchyard, 142 Church Street, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Mr. Hanahan was born September 16, 1936 in Knoxville, Tennessee, son of the late James Ross Hanahan, Jr. and the late Muriel Viglini Hanahan. He was a member of St. Philip's Church, The Society of Colonial Wars, The Society of the Cincinnati, The Huguenot Society, The Charleston Club, Carolina Yacht Club, and The St. Cecilia Society. He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN and Yale University. Grayson attended Duke University Law School followed by service in the U.S. Army. His fondest pleasure was spending his summers at his home in Cedar Mountain, NC, where he was a trustee emeritus of Faith Memorial Chapel.
He is survived by his wife of Mt. Pleasant; and nieces and nephews: Katharyne Rike and Orianna Kirby, both of Mt. Pleasant, Muriel Hanahan of Charleston, Jeanne Hanahan of Golden, CO, Rhoda Brosnan of Asheville, NC, Roger P. Hanahan, Jr. of Charleston, Jeff Z. Brooker, III of Columbia, and John A. Brooker of Kennesaw, GA. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Ross Hanahan, III, and Roger Parke Hanahan.
