On Friday, March 13th, the light of the world dimmed as Grant Patrick Guthrie of Charleston, SC, departed this earth at the age of 31 and began a grand and unimaginable adventure. He was once Homebrewer of the Year, an Eagle Scout and graduated Dyersburg State Community College and attended the University of Arkansas.
Grant was an adventurer, an explorer, and possessed an innate understanding of how things worked (after he took them apart). He was an avid homebrewer, who could build a mean grain bill. Grant loved music, particularly live music, and traveled far and wide to see his favorite bands and hone his skills on the dance floor. He had a penchant for smoked meats, camping, and all things outdoors. He also loved the Arkansas Razorbacks, MacGuyver, and telling stories. Above all, and for which he will be most remembered, Grant was a lover of people. His generosity of spirit was unparallelled, and all who knew him loved him and loved laughing with him.
He is survived by people who cannot imagine a life without him, including but not limited to: his long time girlfriend and love of his life, Holly Shinn of Charleston, SC and their two hounds, Maya and Lilly, and the only cat he ever liked, Charlie; his father, Keith Guthrie of Dyersburg, TN; his mother, Marsha Edgman of Little Rock, AR; his step-mother, Sherry Guthrie of Dyersburg, TN; a sister, Jordan Guthrie Caudell and her husband, Wes, of Birminham, AL and their three sons, Price, Hayes, and Will; two step-sisters, Brooxie Carlton of Nashville, TN, and Ann Jarratt Layo and her husband, Frank, of Atlanta, GA and their son, Burke; and grandparents, Glenn and Peggy Pounder of Little Rock, AR.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, at 2:00 p.m. A celebration befitting of such an inimitable individual will take place following the service.
