Grace "Penny" Willamin Young, 93, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 10, 2024. She was surrounded by her granddaughter Victoria Wimberly and her great granddaughters. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mt. Born on December 2, 1930, in Jonesboro, AR, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur Goodman and Frieda Choat. Penny was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Penny graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. She earned her nursing degree. She met the love of her life, the late Fred Lee Young, and became a military spouse. They married on May 20, 1952. Penny embraced the lifestyle of Fred's demanding Navy career moving up and down the east coast. They eventually settled in South Carolina on the Isle of Palms and have called it home since March 1967. In Charleston, she switched careers to join Thomas Lesesne as a paralegal on Broad Street.

Penny loved being in the kitchen cooking and baking. She enjoyed her morning cup of coffee, watching the birds and squirrels while sitting on her porch, and her sweet loving pup "Rosie". She especially loved pampering Kinley and Kaylie, her great-grandchildren who kept her busy and full of life. Anyone who knew Penny will remember her straightforward personality and spunky nature.

Penny was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband Fred; daughter Tanyia Dawn Lewis; and brother Bernard L. Edington. She is survived by two sons, Fred Lee Young II (Denise) of Franklin,Tennessee; Byron A. Young of Kansas; one daughter Sandria M. Long McLean (Richard) of Pickens, SC; granddaughter Victoria Wimberly (Bradley) of Moncks Corner, SC; and two great-granddaughters, Kinley and Kaylie. She also leaves countless friends and neighbors who loved her and cherished her warmth, friendship, and generosity. Life was sweet and beautiful.
